Introduction & Background

The Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. (DEP), a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, is in need of mural designs to be placed throughout the streetscape of Downtown Excelsior Springs and is accepting proposals in response to this Request For Proposal (RFP) in order to find qualified source(s) to provide artwork for murals. The goals of placing mini murals throughout Downtown Excelsior Springs include:

  1. Beautifying Downtown Excelsior Springs
  2. Visually enhancing areas of the Downtown Excelsior Springs streetscape
  3. Encourage additional art in public spaces throughout Downtown Excelsior Springs
  4. Continue the revitalization process of Downtown Excelsior Springs.

Artist Eligibility

Any artist or team of artists interested in creating an interactive mini mural, with artwork to be completed by July 15, 2022, may submit a proposal in accordance with the Application Requirements provided below.

Location

There are multiple spaces designated for the placement of mini murals.
DEP reserves the right to place successful mural designs in the locations as they see best fit. Locations may include but are not limited to:

  1. Fence located behind Sturm Bros.’ Custom Design & Fine Jewelry
  2. South facing wall of Momentum Chiropractic & Wellness
  3. West facing wall of New Age Skincare Spa & Boutique
  4. East facing wall of 101 W. Broadway Street
  5. West facing wall of Willow Spring Mercantile

Application Requirements

  • A narrative and design illustrating the concept of the proposal in required for each submission.
  • Artwork approved by awarded artists will be required to be submitted in JPEG and Vector format after award contract. The files will then be printed on a 4×8 Max Metal Sheet and affixed to buildings after placement is determined. The cost to print and affix to properties will be led by and at the expense of DEP.
  • Provide all information regarding the proposed artwork such as dimensions (8×4 or 4×8 feet), timeline for completion and budget.
  • All proposal components must be in digital format. The online form to submit proposals can be located below.
  • There is no submission fee and artist(s) may submit more than one application.
  • Images of previously completed works are required. Contact information for references is encouraged.
  • The submission deadline is May 30, 3022.

Policies

Artists will retain the ownership of design ideas submitted with this application. Upon signing a contract between the artist(s) and the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc., the ownership of the design and the artwork produced for this public art mini mural project will become the property of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc.

Proposals will be reviewed by the DEP Design Team and awards determined by the DEP Board of Directors. DEP is not obligated to award a contract from among the proposals received in response to this RFP.

Compensation and all other issues associated with the completion of the mural will be included in the contract between the artist(s) and DEP.

Issuance of Request For Proposals – April 21, 2022
RFP Applicant Submission Deadline – May 30, 2022
Contract Award / Notification to Unsuccessful Bidders – June 9, 2022
The need-date for project completion is July 15, 2022. Bidders may propose a date earlier or later, and will be evaluated accordingly.
