DEP Named Semifinalist for Creative Space Activation Grant

The Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. (DEP) is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as a semifinalist for the Creative Space Activation grant by Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC). This grant, created in 2022, supports local Main Street organizations in activating outdoor public spaces in their historic districts. Awardees receive $10,000 to implement placemaking initiatives that engage the community and enhance vibrancy.

The next step in the selection process involves a 5-minute pitch presentation at the ShowMe Bash during Missouri’s Premier Downtown Revitalization conference on July 31. The DEP team is calling on the community to join in brainstorming creative ideas for this presentation, which can be in any format, including a video, skit, song, or any other imaginative expression.

“We are incredibly honored to be named a semifinalist for the Creative Space Activation grant,” said Lyndsey Baxter, Executive Director of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to showcase our innovative spirit and commitment to revitalizing our downtown area. We invite all residents to share their creative ideas and help us craft a compelling pitch that highlights the unique character and potential of placemaking in Downtown Excelsior Springs.”

The DEP would like to extend a special thanks to the DEP Design Team for their dedication and creativity in planning this project. We are also grateful to Brian Rice for his assistance in the graphic design of the project mockup.

DEP encourages all community members to participate and share their ideas. This collaborative effort will not only enhance the pitch but also ensure that the project reflects the collective vision and creativity of Downtown Excelsior Springs.

In addition to brainstorming for the pitch, we are also seeking suggestions for a name for the creative space we aim to develop. We want a name that captures the essence and vibrancy of downtown.

Ideas and suggestions for both the pitch and the name for the space can be shared by contacting the DEP office at (816) 630-2811 or by emailing Lyndsey Baxter at exec@visitesprings.com. The DEP team will be organizing brainstorming sessions in the coming weeks, and all residents input and ideas are welcome.

Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and join us in making this pitch a true representation of the Excelsior Springs community.
