Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. Earns 8th Consecutive Main Street America Accreditation

DOWNTOWN EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO – February 14, 2025

Yesterday, Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. (DEP) welcomed representatives from Main Street America (MSA) and Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC) for its Annual Accreditation Assessment Visit. The review reaffirmed DEP’s position as a top-tier Main Street program, not just in Missouri but nationwide, recognizing its ongoing efforts to drive economic growth, cultivate partnerships, and create a thriving downtown district.

Throughout the day, Main Street officials met with DEP Executive Director Lyndsey M. Baxter, the DEP Board of Directors, city leaders, and leaders from DEP’s various teams to evaluate the organization’s work and discuss opportunities for future development. Those present included:

Opportunities for Future Growth

While DEP continues to excel, the assessment also highlighted opportunities for continued growth and long-term sustainability, including:

  • Capacity Building – To sustain its success, DEP should explore options for contract employment or paid staff to support the growing workload.
  • Succession Planning – Both DEP and downtown businesses need strategies in place for leadership transitions, ensuring continuity and stability for future generations.
  • Strengthening County Level Partnerships – Growing the financial relationship with Clay County will open new opportunities for resources and investment in downtown projects.
  • Expanding Resident Engagement – While DEP has successfully cultivated tourism and visitor-based experiences, there is an opportunity to better engage local residents in programming, creating a deeper sense of community involvement.
  • Elevating the Experience – DEP has done an exceptional job adding elevated experiences to its platform, setting the stage for a more dynamic, engaging, and immersive downtown experience.

DEP Earns 8th Consecutive Main Street America Accreditation

At the conclusion of the visit, it was announced that the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, Inc. has once again earned accreditation as a Main Street American Organization, marking its eighth consecutive year of achieving the highest standard of excellence.

“This recognition reflects the dedication, passion, and hard work of our board, volunteers, city partners, and local businesses,” said Lyndsey M. Baxter, DEP Executive Director. “We are honored to be among the nation’s leading Main Street programs and are excited to continue driving change and economic success for Downtown Excelsior Springs.”
