Great food with wine pairings are a specialty in downtown restaurants. Shop for wine and fun wine-related items, visit a wine cave, relax in a wine cellar and listen to live music. It’s time to start planning your wine weekend now!

The Mercantile, owned by Jim and Daphne Bowman, has been a staple of downtown for over a decade. Walking in the brick storefront, you’re transported into a world of wine and food, smiles and great conversation. On any given day you might be treated to the wonderful aromas of fresh cooking and newly ground coffee while perusing over 300 Missouri wines from around the state. Besides wine, other items for sale include craft beer and spirits, coffees, teas, packaged gourmet food items, apparel and other local novelty items.
Through the shop and down the stairs is Willow Spring’s Bistro, open daily for lunch and twice a month for dinner. Dishes are made with real, fresh and locally sourced ingredients, with substitutions available for those with food sensitivities. Menu items include appetizers such as the season fruit and cheese plate or red pepper hummus, salads like the Almond Ceaser, flatbread pizzas, specialty sandwiches and wraps, and decadent homemade desserts.
Second Weekends in Downtown Excelsior Springs brings extended hours to The Mercantile on Friday night and live music into the evening. Second Weekends is a downtown event that takes place the second weekend of each month where businesses stay open later and often include special guests and promotions. You can check their social media for all the details.
Another popular monthly Willow Spring occurrence is the coveted Four-Course Wine Dinner. This ticketed event features a Missouri winery joining Jim, Daphne and guests for a gourmet four-course meal accompanied by four select Missouri wines to compliment each dish.
