Business Name:
Willow Spring Mercantile
When did you open your business in Downtown Excelsior Springs?
October 2005

What inspired you to start/open your business in Downtown Excelsior Springs?:
We relocated here in 2004 and immediately fell in love with the charm of the community and the people. Being neighbors to the Elms Hotel helped us understand that other people coming to town saw the same charm as we did. We purchased a building and decided to open a shop in downtown. It has evolved over the years, but we have always enjoyed the friends and people we see every day in our business.
What makes your business unique?:
We are the largest purveyors of Missouri made in the state. From 275 different local wines, 45 different locally made spirits, over 20 craft brewers on the shelves, we enjoy showcasing what Missouri does well. Additionally, we have many locally sourced goods and gifts from food to charcuterie boards, jewelry, apparel and more.
What are the must-try products or services you offer? And what makes them special?:
Everyone says stay for lunch. The food in the bistro we serve is fresh and unique. Additionally, we have our Hot Bacon Cheddar Dip and Tropical Chicken Salad mixes that are delicious in take home packs. Lots of locally sourced jams, spreads and mixes for entertaining as well.

Do you host any events, workshops, or special promotions that customers/visitors should be aware of?:
Each month we got a winemakers dinner that includes four to six wines with four upscale dinner courses. Each course pares food and wine together to showcase the harmony that comes from enjoying them together. The dates and tickets are on our website.
Aside from your own business, can you recommend another must-visit spot in Downtown Excelsior Springs?:
We love our neighbors BluBox Boutique and Molly Roberts Studio. It’s nice to be able to have local businesses that compliment each other. Additionally, we love Rays Diner, it’s our staff’s go to breakfast to get us up and running in the weekends.
How does your business engage with the Excelsior Springs community? Are there local causes or community projects that you’re passionate about or involved with?:
We support all the local events, additionally we participate in the Christmas Hall of Trees, donate to the Piccadilly annually, as well as the Excelsior Springs Hospital Foundation Board.

What advice or tips do you have for visitors coming to Downtown Excelsior Springs?:
Plan a couple days to see every thing. The shops and boutiques in downtown are unique and each one has something special to showcase. Also, get out and visit the local wineries, their ambiance is second to none. If driving outside of downtown isn’t an option, then Pairings by Van Till has a wonderful tasting room and Casa Di Vite has a wonderful patio for wine tastings. Finally, put on some tennis shoes and walk the downtown trail, it’s a beautiful way to start or end the day and is a calming walk along fishing river.
